Omega Seamaster 1958

This lovely Omega Seamaster 1958 14ct Gold Capped Watch is in excellent condition.

The delicately arranged yellow gilt dauphine hands are a staple of a 50’s dress watch design, and paired with 18ct yellow gilt hour indices we’ve reached something quite impressive. Yellow gold with a snow white dial is a stylish combination on vintage watches and does catch the eye beside the cases thick gold bezel.

The ‘dauphine’ style hands have aged very well and the gold hour markers subtly compliment the dial. Both the hands and the ‘pencil’ hour indices remain rich and reflective and look beautiful on the wrist. A subtle minute track lines the outer perimeter of the dial while decorating and balancing the dial perfectly.

This solid 14ct yellow gold case measures 33mm, has a thick bezel and large lugs. The Seamaster was initially a culmination of the technologies developed throughout the war in an incredibly reliable watch. This is very much clear with this watch, the case is of firm and sturdy construction which instills confidence in the wearer and tells them not to have any concern in using it. The watch features an original Omega crown with a period-correct Omega logo, which is pleasant and tactile to use.

This 14ct Omega Signed case is of 3-piece construction with a press fit case back and bezel, which comes on and off with a reassuring pop, indicating sound construction and no significant warping or damage to the case during its lifetime.

The  movement is an Omega Cal.471 automatic movement. The 4-series is very much where Omegas ‘war-time tech’ was first brought into development for civilians and it is what lead to the incredibly established Omega 5-series movements. This movement was first released in 1954, way after the end of war, so it benefits from many of the same manufacturing developments that the 5-series did. These include vastly increased shock protection, magnetic resistance, durable precision parts, a hermetic crown and the list goes on. These movements were developed in Omegas prime, right after decades of consistently producing watches built to endure war, the Seamaster was the sturdy and reliable watch for the working man.

The movement is signed ‘Omega Watch Co Swiss’, ’20 Jewels’, also inscribed on the movement is the caliber number 471 and the movement serial number, dating this watch to 1958.
